Ohio Tax Credit for CDL Training Expenses

Do you assist your employees or plan to assist prospective employees with their CDL training expenses? If you do plan on helping employees with their CDL training expenses in calendar year 2026, Ohio wants to pay for half of eligible expenses ($50,000 maximum expenses so up to $25,000 in savings). However, you will need to get your application in right away! This is a first-come, first-served program, and the application deadline is December 1, 2025.

Some things to think about: CDL training CAN be conducted by qualified external training providers OR internal instructors. Trainer wages are eligible expenses but employee/trainee wages will not be included as eligible expenses.

Eligible expenses include the following:

  • Tuition,
  • Internal instructor/trainer wages,
  • Screening costs (i.e., lab fees, pre-drug medical testing, background checks),
  • Physical examinations,
  • Endorsement fees,
  • Manuals and textbooks, and
  • Certification costs.

Contact us today if you would like to submit an application this month or next, and if you have any questions!
