Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami Valley (BBBSMV) is a nonprofit that holds a special place in our hearts at Brixey & Meyer. Andy Detling, CFO Services Senior Manager, and Nicole Brown, Marketing Specialist, proudly serve on the Associate Board, supporting the organization's mission to create and nurture one-to-one mentoring relationships that unlock the potential of youth.

Founded in 1958, BBBSMV operates on the belief that every child possesses incredible potential. By fostering meaningful, monitored mentoring matches between caring adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 6 to 18, BBBSMV has a profound impact on the youth in our community. These relationships build resilience, promote mental health, enhance academic success, and contribute to the overall well-being of the children involved.

The organization's vision is to ensure that all youth reach their full potential. Mentorship has been proven to transform the lives of young people, and BBBS Miami Valley is a leader in this vital movement. Research indicates that children with mentors are more likely to excel academically, develop healthy relationships, and build strong self-esteem. Additionally, they are less likely to engage in risky behaviors and more likely to set and achieve ambitious goals for their futures.

Programs & Services:

Community-Based Mentoring Program: This is our traditional one-to-one mentoring program, where caring Bigs and Littles share fun and rewarding experiences within the community. Bigs offer friendship, guidance, and inspiration, meeting with their Littles at least twice a month for a total of 4-6 hours. Many matches exceed this time commitment, further enriching the relationship.

School-Based Mentoring Program: Though based in schools, this mentoring program extends beyond the classroom. Littles often talk with their Bigs about class, work on homework, or read together. It’s also common for them to engage in activities like shooting hoops in the gym or playing on the playground. Bigs and Littles in this program meet once a week for one hour throughout the entire school year.

High School Bigs: This program engages high school students as mentors for elementary and middle school youth. High School Bigs commit to spending one hour a week with their Littles at their elementary or middle school for a minimum of one school year.

How to get involved:

  1. Become a Big: Mentoring a child is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. If you're ready to make a lasting impact on a young person's life, consider becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister.
  2. Donate: The annual cost per mentoring match is $2,100. Financial contributions are essential to sustaining BBBSMV’s programs. Your donation can help fund mentorship opportunities and support program development.
  3. Volunteer: In addition to becoming a Big, there are numerous volunteer opportunities available, ranging from event planning to administrative support.
