In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we are so excited to shine the spotlight on Angie, our Cincinnati Office Managing Shareholder! Angie has been on the Brixey & Meyer team for over 5 years. To help us celebrate, we've asked Angie to answer a few questions...

Why did you choose B&M and why do you continue to choose B&M:

The firm I worked for merged with B&M in December of 2016. It was a scary proposition, and I was not sure how I would like the firm and the experience, but I told myself to give it a year and see what happens. It is the best thing career-wise that has ever happened to me. From the beginning, I was treated with such respect and given the opportunity to shine in my role. I always have a seat at the table and my feedback always matters.

Why did you want to become a Shareholder?

I am very proud of our firm and our team. I am excited to tell people about Brixey & Meyer and to share how wonderful our team is and the services we can provide. I wanted to continue to be a part of the growth of our firm, especially in the Cincinnati market. I want to be an example for other women in our firm.

What excites you most about being a Shareholder?

Leading our team. I love watching our team grow and interacting with everyone. We have such a diverse group of people and I love learning about them and how to encourage their growth in our firm. I’m excited to grow our firm and continue to hire more talented and interesting people.

What challenges or stereotypes did you have to overcome on your journey?

Work/life balance. I am a mother first and making sure I am supporting my daughter and spending time with her while making sure I am living up to what is expected of me at work is always a struggle. I feel like it is more of an internal struggle for women and putting pressure on ourselves more so than pressure coming from work or home.  There is always guilt of not doing enough, so I think realizing that you just need to do your best and it is enough.

What advice would you give to other women who want to grow in their career and company?

Surround yourselves with a team that supports you. Fight for yourself and speak up for what you want. Most of the time you need to make it known that you want to get to that next level – people aren’t mind readers. You are your biggest champion. Also, surround yourself with a great team that makes you look good and treat them well. Be yourself and practice humility; being relatable goes a long way.

That's a wrap!  We can't wait to share more about all of our team members, but since there is more to us than just counting beans we are going to take this one rockstar at a time! Until next #EmployeeSpotlight... Go Make Dreams Come True!
